Pizza Rustica: A Delicious Italian Dish for Easter Celebrations
Easter is a time for family, friends, and delicious food. One dish that is sure to please everyone at your Easter table is Pizza Rustica, a traditional Italian dish made with a rich and flavorful stuffing inside a flaky pastry crust. In this article, we’ll show you how to make Pizza Rustica, step-by-step, so you can impress your guests with this delicious dish.
Making the Pizza Dough
To start, you’ll need to make a basic pizza dough. You’ll need flour, water, and yeast, along with a pinch of salt. Combine the ingredients in a large bowl and mix until you have a smooth and pliable dough. Let the dough rest for 1 hour and 30 minutes at room temperature.
Stuffing the Pizza Rustica
While the dough is resting, it’s time to prepare the stuffing. You’ll need ingredients like ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, grated parmigiana cheese or pecorino cheese, and eggs. Mix the ingredients together and add a little black pepper for flavor.
Assembling the Pizza Rustica
Once the stuffing is ready, it’s time to assemble the Pizza Rustica. Roll out the pizza dough into a large, thin sheet and place half of the stuffing mixture in the center. Fold the dough over the stuffing, sealing the edges, and brush the top with beaten eggs. Repeat with the remaining dough and stuffing.
Baking the Pizza Rustica
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and place the Pizza Rustica on a baking sheet. Bake for 1 hour, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbly. Let the Pizza Rustica cool for a few hours before slicing and serving.
Conclusion
Pizza Rustica is a delicious and traditional dish that is perfect for Easter celebrations. With its rich and flavorful stuffing, flaky crust, and beautiful presentation, this dish is sure to be a hit at your next gathering. No tomato sauce at all? Okay. If you say so.
Looks so delicious!
I have a relative whose birthday is coming up. This looks like something he'd like a lot.
Buongiorno signor Pasquale, che bravo chef, mi piace questa ricetta.
Le mando i saluti da Foggia.
Le faccio gli auguri di una Santa Pasqua.
I made this yesterday. Tastes really good. Any one making this needs to use the recipe as is. Adding more eggs or ricotta will make it rise over the top, which happened to a friend of mine. Only thing I would change is the shell. It comes out more bread than pie shell texture
Where's Johnny Meatballs?
We always added sliced hard boiled eggs.
My Mom always called it Easter cake. Delicious!!
Chef: this is the same recipe my family used when I was growing up. Thanks for showing and posting the recipe. Your food is so similar to my mom's. If I didn't know better I'd bet you were from Santa Maria y Vicco, Caserta. Happy Easter. P.S. is that a ten inch pan?
