How to make authentic Italian spaghetti sauce (gravy) from scratch (VIDEO)
This authentic Italian Pasta Sauce / Spaghetti Sauce recipe has been handed down through Annette’s side of the family for more than 4 generations. It’s a versatile sauce that can be used on spaghetti, in lasagna, as a pizza sauce and as a marinara sauce.
You’ll need to allow an hour to prep the sauce and 3 or 4 hours to let it simmer. Letting the sauce simmer and thicken is the authentic Italian way. Your home will be filled with the fantastic aroma of what the true Italians call Pasta Gravy . . . spaghetti sauce.
This recipe makes 8 quarts of spaghetti sauce and it tastes absolutely delicious . . . way better than Ragu and of course, it costs much less too!
You can call it spaghetti sauce, pasta sauce or gravy – but no matter what you call it, you’ll love the flavor.
in late Spring/summer NEVER use the Tomato cans in any kinds …i hate them , full OF CARP MADE in any KINDA OF cans …i use fresh red cherry or grapes tomato is all over the farmer market every week , throw the pounds after pounds of it into the blender & make tomato sauce out of it & used that ONLY & Frezz them alot for fall/winter , LOOKS good, but i use one or 2 pounds of Garlic, is like 3-4 whole garlic for that much sauce …ITALIAN sauce, specially comes to Spaghetti or pizza sauce , is all about Garlic & tomatoes ~!
I'll try adding the garlic. 🙂
I tried that & it tastes like onion juice :/ gross!
What's wrong with cooking chopped onion in garlic and olive oil?
Gotta make it at home, I love spaghetti. Patience is mother of all virtues. I prefer making everything at home. Even my spices powder and herbs are all home made and grown. It's better to be safe then sorry.
Going to make this I’m tired of ragú or pregó
Da italiana non riesco nemmeno a guardare cosa combini. Mi dispiace ma in italia il cibo è sacro.
Anything from a can is not from scratch. Were talkin tomatos straight from the plant.
Walmart quality
And you dont use metal spoons while cooking sauce
A real Italian would never use a can tomatoes to make tomatoes sauce!
News flash! Using canned tomatoes is not from scratch. Try again.
Celery seems like a great addition! Can't wait to try. I think I will leave the celery whole then fish them out at the end. We'll see. THank you!!
Are those cans the same size used in the Shining ? Italian original recipes did NOT come from a can , but were grown Organically!!
I went to the link to the website and got spammed with so many adds that I could not find the recipe. Really bad business model.
I am going to guess it taste better then the .99 cent store brand that I buy, but I do add some powered garlic so it might rival your sauce.
I don't know anyone that puts celery in their sauce, That doesn't sound right. I think it would make it taste bland. I've never been to Italy but my roots are from there and my Mother taught me and all my sisters how to make authentic Italian spaghetti sauce that her mother taught her. I make it almost the same way except I don't use celery. Do most Italian's use celery in their sauce?
That's almost how my dad made his
LOL the way she said “o gosh” after camera guy asked for measurements.
Italian autentic? Ahahahhh
You are able to create complexity for a very simple sauce. If you come to Italy with such receipt you risk to get kicks.
Just an advice: you jyst need three ingredients.olive oil, onions and tomato sauce. Basilica only fresh as leaf and parmigiano only at the end. It is a personal taste option and then. NO origan! You have to cook in a pan and MIX spaghetti and sauce in the pan not in the dish
It’s a family canned recipe that’s not from Italy.
